Changing Your System Password
Your master account password is used for logging into cPanel, transferring files via SFTP, and ssh logins. E-mail passwords are used for authenticating to the webmail systems, or for making POP/IMAP/SMTP connections. Please do not re-use your system password as an email password.
As with any computer system, we recommend that you A) choose secure, hard-to-guess passwords, and B) change passwords on a regular basis. You can change your system password over a secure web connection or from a shell prompt.
System Passwords
To change your system password over the web, visit your cPanel. Log in with your username (not email address) and password, then click Site Management | Change Password. Enter your old password, your new password twice, and click the Change button.
Geeks can change passwords from the command line by ssh’ing to yourdomain.com and logging in with your existing username and password. Then use the “passwd” command to change your system password.
